Intimacy With Ghosts…

Friend of a friend found this gem:

A professor at the University of Kentucky was giving a lecture on the
Supernatural. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, “How many
people here
believe in ghosts?”

About 90 students raise their hands.

“Well, that’s a good start. Out of those of you who believe in ghosts,
do any of you think you have seen a ghost?”

About 40 students raise their hands.

“That’s really good. I’m really glad you take this seriously. Has
anyone here ever talked to a ghost?”

About 15 students raise their hand.

“Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?”

Three students raise their hands.

“That’s fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further… Have any
of you ever made love to a ghost?”

Way in the back, Bubba raises his hand.

The professor takes off his glasses, and says “Son, all the years I’ve
been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to
a ghost. You’ve got to come up here and tell us about your
experience!”

The big redneck student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to
make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room,
the professor asks, “So, Bubba, tell us what it’s like to have sex
with a ghost?”

Bubba replied, “Shiiiit!! From way back there I thought you said
“Goats.”

FOREVER

I CAN SEE IT

My god its December again. Where the hell did the year go again!?

Contemplation…

I had a much longer post typed that I just wiped out. I realized it sounded really whiny because I was trying to go towards a “I dislike change” thesis for this post. So I guess there was some meta-contemplation going on. A lot of it was drivel but made me realize change is a part of life that you can’t get rid of and just need to adapt to (har har massive cliche). Adaptation is something I’m somewhat good at, but I’ll resist the change as much as I can.

Stuff and things…

So basically I lost pretty much all the posts I’ve had before, so I get to start fresh.

Lately I’ve been just doing work/eat/sleep. Looking forward to Thanksgiving and especially Christmas (friends coming out to visit). I’ve installed Mac OS 10.5 Leopard on my Mac Mini and Macbook Pro and its quite awesome. Time Machine is, bar none, the best consumer level backup solution on the market. Now, it is not without flaws and shortcomings. It doesn’t support backing up to a SMB/NFS server share out of the box. This is irritating because I have a 1.4 TB storage server for such purposes, and would rather the backups go there than monopolize a couple firewire/USB drives for backing up. There is a way to force it (defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1) but allegedly it puts your data integrity at risk, so I’ve been just backing up to some external drives and going to rsync them to the server. We’ll see.

Other than that, I’ve been rebuilding the gallery, and putting up all those stupid things I’ve found over the internets, and pictures of my cat.

Server Online In New Datacenter

If you’re seeing this, the site is being hosted from the real server in San Jose, and not my mac mini.

Accounts will be recreated shortly. Working on getting everything situated.

Catastrophic Server Failure…

This site for the time being is being hosted off my Mac Mini in my apartment in Broomfield, CO. This is all you get until the server is back online in San Jose, CA.

On Friday, November 9th, we had 2 drives on our RAID-5 array die. This resulted in the loss of all data on the array. I do not make backups for anyone other than myself (and in this case, mine are so ancient I’m starting from scratch). You will need to restore your own data once accounts are back online.

Sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning, the server should be back up with a NetApp SAN backend.

Please contact me if I have missed restoring your account. I can be reached at (408) 676-2227, or russ@ksilebo.net, or those that use AIM know how to contact me on AIM.
